Nadine Bingöl, Manuel Bleiziffer, Ece Karadag, Melike Özgül and Emelie Wöllner received the third prize in this year’s chemPLANT competition. The five students developed a concept in which 1,3-butadiene is produced by electrolysis and the Lebedev method using CO2 captured from the exhaust of cement plants, purified water and clean energy. The oxygen split off during electrolysis is recycled in cement plants, so sector coupling is an integral part of the “Cadib-Pro-B” concept.

The team is convinced that the butadiene produced in this way will be competitive due to the expansion of renewable energies.

Their concept convinced not only the jury but also the participants of the “Thermodynamik Kolloquium 2024” at the University of Stuttgart.

Congratulations to all team members on this remarkable accomplishment!
